Iina Marja-aho ja James McBeth: Sorg och Glädje – concert

La 5.8. ja SU 6.8.

Kaija Saariahon Muistolle

Iina Marja-aho and James McBeth, musicians who have become friends in London, will perform music by contemporary composers from Finland, Sweden and the UK. The duet, composed by Robin Ireland, plays with the possibilities of viola and cello and their combination. Kaija Saariaho's Vent Nocturne ('Night Wind') features a dialogue between viola and live electronics, with interpretations of the sounds of wind and breathing in particular. The concert will conclude with Andrea Tarrod's Sorg och Glädje, which takes its name and theme from J.L Runeberg's poem of the same name.

James McBeth is a Welsh cellist with a Master of Music degree from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. He is an active chamber and orchestral musician and has worked with the Welsh National Opera. Iina Marja-aho is a violist, also from London who recently returned to Finland. She is currently working as a freelancer, especially with the Tampere Philharmonic, but is also actively working on her own projects.

Iina Marja-aho and James McBeth perform also as a part of Sunday's Art by the Sea -program.
